Residents of a specific California zip code are about to be given what some might consider a golden opportunity—a chance to win a complimentary annual pass to the upcoming George Lucas Museum in Los Angeles.
In a recent announcement, the newly built Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, which cost around $1 billion, revealed the LM37 Pass. This pass will provide those living within the 90037 zip code in South Los Angeles with free access to attractions at the museum, located in Exposition Park, set to open on September 22.
The message about the pass emphasizes the founders’ vision of creating a welcoming space for the community to connect through art, stories, and shared experiences.
“Holders of the pass can reserve entry for themselves and a guest, which encourages visits to our exhibits, gardens, and public areas throughout the year,” stated the museum.
Tracy Bates, the museum’s interim CEO, expressed that the opening day presents an exciting moment for local residents who have witnessed the museum’s construction over the past eight years. When it opens this fall, visitors will find themselves surrounded by an array of Star Wars vehicles, including Luke Skywalker’s landspeeder.
Die-hard fans will get to explore designs of vehicles, iconic props, and costumes from the original Star Wars trilogy through an exhibit aptly named Star Wars in Motion.
Interestingly, the museum isn’t just about the galaxy far, far away. It boasts an impressive 100,000 square feet of gallery space filled with over 1,200 items chosen from George Lucas’s personal collection amassed since college.
This collection features a variety of artwork, from ancient sculptures to contemporary illustrations. According to Lucas, “I could never sell my art. It’s about the emotional connection you have with the work, not the price tag.” The museum aims to showcase humanity’s cultural evolution through storytelling, covering everything from ancient art to modern film.
Though Lucas shared his dream for the museum back in 2017, there were multiple delays, and the grand opening is finally set for September 22, 2026. Residents in the 90037 area can look out for opportunities to register for the LM37 Pass on the museum’s website.
