Firefighters are battling a wildfire that threatens homes in the San Diego area and residents are being evacuated.
CalFire San Diego confirmed it is assisting the city of Poway, 54 miles from San Diego, with a vegetation fire near Pomerado Road and Ted Williams Parkway that broke out around 1 p.m. Monday.

Officials say the fire has now grown to two acres and is threatening buildings.
The City of Poway also confirmed that fire personnel are responding to the wildfire and shared evacuation orders.
“The Poway Fire Department is responding to a brush fire near Ted Williams and Pomerado Roads. Traffic is affected and road closures are expected on both Ted Williams and Pomerado roads. Glen Oak Way and Wilsey Road. Wei residents have been evacuated,” the city wrote in a post to X. .

Officials say the wildfire is being caused by strong winds and could spread further.
Cal Fire personnel were assisting at the scene and a helicopter was dispatched to provide air support.
A temporary shelter has been set up at Abraxas High School, 12450 Glen Oak Road in Poway, the sheriff's office said.

A small wildfire is burning near the iconic Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, the second blaze to hit Southern California on Monday.
The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that the fire was “fully extinguished in 31 minutes” and did not exceed a quarter acre in size.
“All threatened structures were successfully defended and suffered no damage,” the alert said.

Los Angeles Police Department officials later confirmed that witnesses spotted a young man nearby who had started a fire and then left.
Officers arrested the suspect, who was likely a temporary resident, and took him into custody. His identity has not been disclosed.
