Costco Expands in California

Californians seem to have an endless appetite for Costco. The popular warehouse chain is set to continue its growth in the state with another store opening soon.

A recent social media video has highlighted the progress on a new Costco location in Vallejo, Northern California, expected to open in November. This will replace an existing store in the same city.

Interestingly, this news comes as competitor Sam’s Club has also started expanding in California, recently opening a new location in Lathrop, close to Stockton.

Vallejo already has a Costco, but this new, larger facility has folks in the area buzzing on social media. One person expressed a positive sentiment, commenting, “Vallejo can use any sort of upgrade,” reflecting on the city’s need for revitalization.

Another local chimed in, saying, “It’s good because the old one had limited parking.” However, there are also some concerns. Some commenters have expressed doubt about whether the store will actually open in November, citing the amount of work left. “It’s a great thing for Vallejo but no way will it even open this year. There’s so much left to do on the exterior alone, not to mention the interior,” one person pointed out.

The anticipation is mixed, as another remarked, “Ain’t no way they finish that in a month or two.”

Alongside the Vallejo opening, Costco has plans for a massive store in Camarillo, scheduled to launch on October 30. They recently confirmed the Vallejo opening during an earnings call, detailing plans for a total of 33 new locations across the U.S. and Canada in the upcoming fiscal year. CEO Ron Vachris mentioned that about $7.5 billion would be allocated for these new stores.

In addition to the upcoming openings in California, there are also several new locations set to debut in October in places like Missouri, Texas, New York, and Kansas. November will see another wave, with nine more stores opening across various U.S. locations.
