Mystery Surrounds High School Coach’s Disappearance
The situation regarding a high school football coach’s unexpected vanishing during an undefeated season has taken a curious turn. The school district announced that an unidentified staff member is now on administrative leave related to an ongoing investigation.
Travis Turner, who leads the football team at Union High School in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, remains officially listed as a missing person in the Virginia State Police records as of Monday. His disappearance occurred late last week, according to police reports shared with the Post.
The 46-year-old coach went missing Thursday while heading home to Appalachia, as investigations were just beginning. Police stated that “this is part of an investigation, not an arrest.” They noted that investigators learned Turner was no longer present at the scene while they were en route.
In a now-deleted Facebook post, Turner’s wife, Leslie Caudill Turner, expressed her concerns, stating, “We love him and we need him here with us… Please continue to pray that he comes home.” Meanwhile, officials from Wise County Public Schools, which oversees Union High, revealed that some employees were placed on administrative leave on the same day. They haven’t confirmed whether this individual is Turner or if it has any direct connection to his disappearance.
The school district commented on the situation, indicating that “one employee has been placed on paid administrative leave while an outside agency reviews allegations.” They emphasized that this standard procedure doesn’t imply any wrongdoing. However, details remain scant given the active law enforcement involvement.
Virginia State Police have utilized various resources for the search, including drones and search teams, in hopes of locating Turner safely. As of now, he has not been found, and investigations are ongoing.
This disappearance occurs amid what should have been a triumphant season for the football team. In the interim, assistant coach Jay Edwards has taken over coaching duties while the case progresses.
