Chaos on the Field: Amon-Ra St. Brown and Daron Payne Incident

It appears that in these heated moments, it’s often the ones responding who end up facing consequences.

Recently released footage has surfaced showing Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Lions throwing a punch at Daron Payne during their game on Sunday. This altercation escalated when Payne retaliated, leading to his ejection and a subsequent one-game suspension.

Interestingly, Payne shared the video on his Instagram, captioning it with, “Oh, I get it.” This adds a layer to the whole situation, wouldn’t you say?

The altercation occurred in the second quarter of the game, right before the Lions extended their lead to 19 points, eventually winning 44-22 on the road.

This new footage shows Payne and St. Brown standing next to each other when Payne shoved St. Brown.

St. Brown reacted by extending his arm toward Payne, who seemed to try to brush it off. But then Payne struck St. Brown in the face, and in return, St. Brown punched Payne, apparently causing his helmet to shift slightly as the referee attempted to break things up.

A few plays later, after the Lions increased their lead to 22-3, Payne saw St. Brown approaching and hit him with a right hand, which ultimately got him ejected from the game.

St. Brown later admitted to saying something to Payne during that scuffle.

The NFL ended up suspending Payne for one game without pay. Even after appealing, the league upheld the suspension.

While St. Brown didn’t specify about punching Payne, he did acknowledge that there was a confrontation between them prior to the punch.

“I think a couple of plays earlier, there was some back and forth,” St. Brown said after the Lions went ahead 6-3. “Ultimately, we score, and I go up to him, say a little something—nothing too serious—and then he decides to swing at me, and that’s just how it went.”

Payne’s suspension means he will miss the upcoming Week 11 game against the Dolphins in Madrid, but he is slated to return for Week 13 as they face the Broncos during Sunday Night Football.

For Washington, losing Payne is another hurdle in what has been a tough season, particularly in the absence of their star quarterback Jaden Daniels and leading receiver Terry McLaurin.

With high hopes after last year’s surprising run to the NFC Championship Game, the Commanders are currently struggling with a record of 3-7.
