New House bill aims to make Trump’s ban on transgender service members permanent

House GOP Bill to Solidify Transgender Military Ban

The latest proposal from House Republicans aims to transform former President Donald Trump’s executive order banning transgender individuals from serving in the military into permanent federal law. Introduced this week by Representative Barry Moore of Alabama, the measure is reportedly in touch with officials from the Trump administration, as Moore disclosed to Fox News Digital.

Moore highlighted concerns regarding the commitment of service members, noting that contracts lasting six years combined with surgeries and hormone replacements could complicate military operations. He believes this legislation would not only save taxpayer dollars but also enhance military recruitment.

Potential GOP Tensions

A source familiar with the discussions has shared with Fox News Digital an email hinting at potential backing from the White House Office of Management and Budget, the Department of Homeland Security, and the National Security Council concerning the bill. This proposal, dubbed The Readiness over Wokeness Act, explicitly prevents individuals who have undergone gender transition procedures—including hormone therapy or surgeries—from enlisting in the military.

Moore expressed his belief that a more homogenous military unit would be better prepared for combat, suggesting that a focus on traditional roles is essential for effective operations. “I think taxpayers will get a much bigger bang for their buck,” he remarked. He emphasized the importance of a cohesive unit, especially when facing engaging scenarios in the field.

Trump’s Stance and Judicial Backing

Just after beginning his second term, Trump instituted an executive order that prohibited transgender individuals from military service. Defense Secretary Pete Hegses aimed for implementation that included the dismissal of current transgender personnel, a move that faced legal challenges but was recently upheld by the Supreme Court.

Hegses stated emphatically, “There’s no more trances at the Defense Department,” in a message shortly after the orders were enacted. Although Trump had previously introduced similar restrictions during his first term, these were reversed by former President Joe Biden. The permanence of Moore’s bill could complicate any future attempts to overturn such policies, especially if Democrats regain control of Congress.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the White House for further comment on the developments.
