The Department of Justice is currently searching for a violent individual who allegedly tried to confront New Jersey Deputy District Attorney Alina Haba with a baseball bat before vandalizing her office in a violent outburst.
US Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed that the shocking event occurred on Wednesday night. She vowed that the suspect would be swiftly brought to justice, especially as political violence appears to be on the rise.
“Last night, someone attempted to confront one of the U.S. attorneys—my close friend [Alina Haba]—destroying property in her office and then fleeing the scene. Thankfully, she is safe,” Bondi mentioned in a statement.
“Any violence or threats against federal employees are unacceptable. This is an unfortunate trend as extremists continue to target law enforcement across the country. We will locate this person, and they will face justice,” she added.
Haba, who once worked as President Trump’s personal lawyer, was in her Newark office when the assailant reportedly showed up outside wielding a baseball bat. Reportedly, he was not allowed entry to the building.
The man eventually returned without the bat, and after being permitted inside, Haba went to her office. There, he began shouting nonsensically and damaging property, according to sources.
It’s still unclear whether this individual had a specific vendetta against Haba, who supervises all federal criminal prosecutions and civil litigation in New Jersey.
“I refuse to be intimidated by radical individuals; I will continue doing my job,” Haba expressed, having been appointed to her interim position by President Trump in March.
The FBI has a description of the suspect’s appearance, as a spokesperson confirmed to the Times.
Details regarding the incident are still limited, but the FBI indicated that they would provide more information as it becomes available.
