New Jersey First Lady Drops Out Of Race To Replace Dem Senator Under Federal Indictment

New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy announced Sunday that she is withdrawing from the Senate race to replace Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez, who is facing federal indictment on bribery charges.

Murphy announced her decision to withdraw from the race on X (formerly Twitter), saying that while she wants to take on the challenge of bringing about change, she ultimately doesn’t want the campaign to become “divisive and negative.” Stated. “Sometimes politics can seem very, very small, but right now our country faces big challenges. Over the past few months, I have been presenting a vision for how we can meet them. Because, let’s be honest, Washington hasn’t gotten it done,” Murphy said.

“Along the way, New Jersey’s faith leaders, community activists, brothers and sisters in labor, and many others have been central to my campaign. It is precisely these voices of support and hope that we It’s what drives us to move forward with conviction and purpose on the issues we must tackle together. That’s why, after a hectic, exhilarating, and yes, challenging few months, I’d like to invite you to hear from me in person. However, today I am suspending my campaign for the Senate. I have always acted with integrity and based on the facts, but continuing this race would be a very divisive and negative campaign. It’s obvious what’s going to happen, and I don’t want to do it.”

With Murphy withdrawing from the race, Democratic Rep. Andy Kim will be the only Democrat to fill Menendez’s seat as the state’s June primary approaches. Mr Kim already leads in opinion polls with 32%, but this time Mr Murphy’s approval rating is expected to move to 20%, which the first lady endorsed in her announcement video.

“With Donald Trump on the ballot and so much at stake for our country, I have no conscience to waste resources trying to bring down a fellow Democrat,” Murphy said. No,” he said.

Menendez announced last week that he would not run in the Democratic primary after he was further indicted by the Justice Department in early March. The Democratic New Jersey senator and his wife, Nadine, were originally indicted in September on conspiracy to commit bribery, but the Justice Department charges them with obstruction of justice, extortion and honest services wire fraud in the latest indictment. Added.

Mr. Menendez denied all allegations brought against him.
