New Jersey high school compelled to cancel an entire day of classes due to excessive senior prank: 'Went too far'

Classes were canceled at a New Jersey high school due to an extravagant senior prank that left the campus in disarray.

At South River High School, students caused chaos by rearranging furniture, emptying equipment from the gym, and covering hallways with toilet paper. Reports mentioned that the extent of the damage led to a decision to close the school for the day.

“Nothing was broken or stolen, but all the tables and desks were moved around, and gym equipment was outside,” said Mayor Peter Gindy. He noted, “We all did pranks as kids, but this one just went too far.”

The decision to shut down the school was made in response to what authorities described as a “crime prank incident.” The school had planned to push back the opening bell by 90 minutes due to the unforeseen disruption.

South River High students are set to return to classes on Friday. The South River School District has not commented on whether the students who participated in the prank would face any consequences.

In other regions, wild senior pranks have also made headlines. For instance, in the Tristate area, an event saw hundreds of students engaging in a brawl at Jones Beach State Park on Senior Skip Day. Meanwhile, a student from Malibu High School reportedly caused extensive damage by locking classroom doors and driving golf carts down staircases.
