New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) introduced a gun control package on Friday. The package includes, among other things, a ban on “assault weapons,” the ability for New Mexicans to sue gun manufacturers, and a two-week waiting period for gun purchases. .

Grisham's push would ban “guns in parks and playgrounds” and “make it illegal to carry firearms in county and city parks, playgrounds, and their associated parking lots.” This would give legal force to the ban Grisham issued via executive order on September 8, 2023.
Another aspect of her gun control package: “[prohibit] There are guns at polling places. “It would be illegal to carry a firearm within 100 feet of a polling place during an election.''
A variety of Democratic state legislators are sponsoring aspects of the gun control package, including state Sen. Peter Wirth and state Reps. Andrea Romero, Christine Chandler and Leena Szczepanski.
fox news report Grisham commented on the gun package, saying, “In the area of gun violence, questions of constitutionality are starting to get very complicated. … We will continue this work as we follow what's happening across the country. … There will be others who will follow in our footsteps and build their own public safety corridors, effectively making New Mexicans safer.”
