New Orleans attack victim identified as Prince William’s former nanny’s stepson

Prince William and the royal family have paid tribute to the British man killed in the New Orleans terrorist attack.

Edward Pettyfer, 31, has been identified as one of the victims of the Bourbon Street attack in the early morning hours of New Year's Day.

Pettyfer is from London, and her stepmother is Prince William and Prince Harry's former nanny.

“Catherine and I are shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Ed Pettyfer,” a statement on the official Instagram page of the Prince and Duchess of Wales said.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Pettyfer family and all the innocent people tragically affected by this horrific attack.”

Prince William signed the eulogy posted on social media, ending the statement with the letter 'W'.

In the 1990s, Pettyfer's stepmother, Alexandra “Tiggy” Legge-Burke, served as a nanny for Prince William and Prince Harry.

“Our entire family is devastated by the tragic news of Ed's passing in New Orleans. He was a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew, and friend to many.

“We will all miss Ed very much. Our thoughts are with the other families who have lost loved ones in this terrible attack. We ask that as a family we may grieve Ed's death privately. Thank you.”

Reuters reported that King Charles was deeply saddened to learn of Pettyfer's death and had contacted his family to offer his personal condolences.

Buckingham Palace did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

Pettyfer's father Charles, a former British army officer, married Tiggy in 1999, shortly after she retired from being a nanny to Prince William and Prince Harry.

The family maintains close ties to the British royal family, with Pettyfer's brother-in-law, Tom, attending Prince William and Kate's wedding in 2011.

At least 14 people were killed and dozens injured in Wednesday's attack, according to the FBI.
