New Orleans Ramming Suspect Identified as ‘Shamsud Din Jabbar’

The suspect accused of driving a pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans on New Year's Day, killing 10 people and injuring at least 30 others, has been named Shamsuddin Jabbar, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The FBI also confirmed that Jabbar's identity was first revealed. reported According to Nola.com, the 42-year-old man was carrying an Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) flag in his car.

The FBI said in a statement:

The victim was identified as Shamsud Din Jabbar, 42, a US citizen from Texas. He was driving a Ford pickup truck, which appears to have been rented, and we are working to determine how the subject acquired the vehicle.

An ISIS flag was found inside the vehicle, and the FBI is working to determine any potential connections or connections between the suspects and the terrorist organization.

Weapons and a potential IED were found in the subject's vehicle. Other potential IEDs were also planted in the French Quarter. FBI Special Agent Bomb Technicians are working with law enforcement partners to determine whether these devices are viable and are working to make them safe.

The agency said it was investigating the attack as an act of terrorism and was “actively pursuing all leads to identify anyone who may be associated with the subject.”

FBI Assistant Special Agent Aretha Duncan initially told the public that the attack was not a “terrorist incident.”

Police shot him dead after the attack.
