New Pew Research survey reveals concerning trend among high school senior girls

Changes in Marriage Trends Among High School Students

The strength of a society often reflects the vitality of its families. Numerous studies suggest that a society’s success is closely linked to marriage and child-rearing. Generally, both individuals and communities benefit from these familial structures, contributing to the overall health of the nation.

Yet, what if an entire generation turns away from conventional family setups? This is a pressing concern for conservative circles right now, especially given the declining marriage and birth rates.

According to the latest insights from the Pew Research Center, a notable shift has occurred among high school seniors, particularly girls. Only 61% of 12th-grade girls now express a desire to marry someday, a significant drop from 83% in 1993—a difference of 22 percentage points.

Boys in the same grade have remained relatively consistent, with 74% indicating plans to marry compared to 76% three decades ago.

This marks the first instance in this data where high school boys show a greater interest in marriage than girls.

Moreover, the poll highlighted a decrease in various sentiments about marriage. Between 1993 and 2023, the belief in marrying the same person for life declined by 4%, while the desire to have children dropped by 9% among high school seniors.

Stu Bruguiere, host of “Stu Does America,” has commented on these statistics, suggesting they signal troubling trends for the nation. He emphasizes that “every metric” related to wellbeing—be it economic stability or personal happiness—improves with marriage, which he considers a vital societal element.

The growing disinterest among girls in monogamous relationships appears tied to feminist movements that advocate for “liberating” women from traditional roles associated with marriage and childbirth. This shift doesn’t just lead to personal dissatisfaction; it might jeopardize a country’s future, especially as stable birth rates become more critical.

“If these trends continue, we’re looking at a significant crisis,” Bruguiere warned.
