First appeared on FOX: In a 2021 blog post just days before Biden was inaugurated, a newly hired White House digital staffer congratulated social media companies for “finally, thankfully” banning Trump from their platforms and questioned “why it took so long.”
Andy Borowski posted a photo to social media on Monday of himself in front of the White House with the caption “New job starts today,” and according to his LinkedIn profile, he has joined the White House Office of Digital Strategy as “Deputy Director for Platforms.”
In a blog post, Volosky writes: Listed on the website He called social media companies’ steps to ban Trump following his former employer’s January 6 attack on the Capitol “a welcome step to limit someone’s ability to incite violence in the real world.”
In a subsection of the article titled “A new and perhaps welcome standard,” Volokhsky warned that “Twitter continues to allow the accounts of a variety of world leaders, governments, and spokespeople to continue using its platform, using the platform for what can only be described as propaganda, as a front for authoritarian regimes.”

“The impact of these speeches is invisible to most of the world, and certainly not to most Americans, but their impact is real nonetheless,” he continued.
He further said that Democrats “have been [social media] He defended the “platform” and emphasized how he and other social media users can “maintain the integrity of the platform.”
“As social media professionals, we were apprehensive at first. We know these platforms inside and out, and unknown regulations that impact our day-to-day work are not something that’s on our to-do list,” Volosky added. “But in the meantime, we can do our part to maintain the integrity of the platforms and elevate the positive role of social media in people’s lives.”
“It’s time for platforms to take content moderation and user safety seriously, and as social media professionals, we should be ready and eager to make that happen, and I hope this is a small step that starts it all,” he added, referring to President Trump being banned from social media.
Borowski’s new role came as the White House hired Megan Coyne, who served in multiple social media roles under New Jersey Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy, to run the White House social media accounts in 2022. The Washington Post called the White House tweets “spirited,” while BuzzFeed said the posts were “punchy.” Coyne will continue in her role and will likely serve in the same capacity as Borowski.
Volorsky, who is believed to have deleted his X account and created a new one last month ahead of starting his White House job, previously worked as a “senior social and text strategist” at Middlesheet Consulting.

Paterson’s comments come in the wake of multiple controversies surrounding Rob Flaherty, the former White House director of digital strategy and now Biden’s deputy campaign manager. According to Facebook files viewed by Fox in 2023, Flaherty played a key role in working with Facebook on behalf of the Biden administration on social media discourse related to COVID-19.
The files included records of conversations between Flaherty and Facebook executives in which Biden’s staff suggested the company “pay attention” to certain types of conversations, specifically those that expressed hesitancy about the COVID-19 vaccine and its potential side effects.
“Because this is a global pandemic, is it possible to give government agencies access to targeting parameters that they normally don’t have access to?” a White House official said in the conversation at the time.
