A 40-year-old man was stabbed to death inside a New York City subway station, police said.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) confirmed to Fox News Digital that officers responded to a 911 call at 6pm on Friday at the Washington Heights subway station.
Authorities say the stabbing happened near a subway ticket gate.
The 40-year-old victim was stabbed multiple times in the torso, the NYPD said.

Police sources Check with FOX 5 The victim and suspect knew each other and had been involved in an argument at a nearby park before the stabbing occurred.
The victim was rushed to Harlem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The New York Police Department said the suspect’s identity is unknown at this time and no arrests have been made.

Police said the victim’s identity will not be released until family members have been notified.

The fatal incident at the New York City subway station comes amid a steady rise in violent incidents on the popular mode of transportation.
According to the data, more than 1,700 people have been arrested for evading ticket barriers and more than 28,000 tickets have been issued for fare evasion so far this year.

Police and Mayor Eric Adams, a former transit official, have suggested there may be a link between fare evasion and violence on trains.
In March, a man shot himself in the head. A fight in a crowded subway carPolice said the man, who was armed with a gun, went through an emergency exit gate and did not pay his fare.
