Michael Rappaport Critiques New York Mayoral Candidate Zoran Mamdani

During a podcast on Tuesday, comedian Michael Rappaport, a resident of New York City, coined a new nickname for democratic socialist mayoral candidate Zoran Mamdani, referring to him as “Zoran the Fool.” Rappaport expressed his discontent with Mamdani’s candidacy, even joking that if Mamdani wins, he wouldn’t be leaving the city.

“I’ve heard people say that if Zoran wins the election—some sort of moron—you should leave New York. But honestly, we should stay,” he said, urging New Yorkers to remain in their hometown regardless of the election outcome.

Mamdani’s candidacy has stirred concerns among some Jewish New Yorkers, particularly because of his rhetoric regarding Israel. In a recent interview, he hesitated to denounce the phrase “globalizes the intifada.” Following backlash for this, he reportedly reassured city business leaders that he would avoid using this slogan in the future.

Financially-minded leaders are also worried about the implications of Mamdani’s proposed policies, including a rent freeze initiative.

Rappaport, who identifies as Jewish and has been vocally supportive of Israel, emphasized the risks of allowing Mamdani into office. He called for New Yorkers to “remove the artist supporting terrorism and socialist ideas from our city.”

“He’s not going anywhere,” he stressed about Mamdani. “Even if Zoran wins, I won’t leave either.”

Mamdani, a Muslim assemblyman originally from Uganda, notably defeated former Governor Andrew Cuomo to secure the Democratic nomination for mayor.

Rappaport highlighted that despite potential financial setbacks should Mamdani implement his policies, he remains committed to staying in New York.

“I’m here to play the game, Zoran the Vacan,” he mentioned. “If he wins, it’s on us to take action and make this city great again.”

Rappaport has been voicing his opinions on the candidates since Mamdani’s victory in the Democratic primary last month.

In a separate interview earlier this month, the comedian expressed his disbelief at Mamdani’s candidacy, stating, “The fact this guy is even running is troubling.” He added, “Whether he wins or loses, it’s an affront.”

As of now, Mamdani has not responded to requests for comments.
