Democratic New York Mayor Eric Adams told Eyewitness News on Wednesday that his administration would cut funding for immigration by another 10 percent.
Adams previously said he had cut funding for immigration by 20%. report. “We are far from out of the woods, but it shows that if we are mindful of how we spend and control the spending we see in the city, we can manage this crisis,” Adams said. told Witness News. “When we took it over, we were in a state of emergency,” Adams recalled. “Emergency situations cost more.”

“We are now moving into a stable state. This has been here for a while. That way we can renegotiate contracts. We can plan for the long term. Crisis We are in a situation, but we are not using this as an emergency. The emergency is still there, so we are responding in a different way. But we are managing it in a different way.” the mayor told the outlet.
Adams said in September 2023 that the cost of immigration is devastating the city.
“This problem is going to destroy New York City. We have 10,000 immigrants coming every month…People from all over the world are deciding to come to New York City through the southern part of the border…every community in this city. “We have a $12 billion deficit that we have to cut, and every service in this city is going to be affected,” he said.
Critics are voicing disagreements with the mayor over a new $53 million pilot program that would provide prepaid credit cards to immigrants, even if the fees are reduced.
“How on earth do you come up with a $53 million pilot program for illegal aliens, but people who are here legally? to be born Don’t they have enough here? asked Stephen A. Smith, a New York City native and ESPN sports analyst.
