New York City presents an irresistible proposal to Andy Cohen, the king of trash TV: 'Funny and ironic'

Andy Cohen Receives Unconventional Honor in Manhattan

On Tuesday, Andy Cohen, known for his sharp wit and role as Bravo’s head honcho, received a rather unique tribute. A trash can in Manhattan was officially named after him.

The colorful ceremony took place at the corner of Van Dam and Hudson streets in the stylish Hudson Square area, where producers film “Watch What Happens Live” for the “Real Housewives” series. Cohen proudly cut the ribbon on a Big Belly dumpster marked “Andy Cohen’s Corner.”

“This is just so funny, layered, and honestly wonderful. I support trash pickup, so it’s a joy to have my name on this can,” Cohen quipped right after tossing a banana peel into his namesake dumpster.

He even wondered aloud, “Do you think Stephen Colbert has a trash can named after him?”

At 57, Cohen is the first individual in New York City to receive this distinction from the Hudson Square Business Improvement District, acknowledging his show’s near 17-year presence in the area.

Interestingly, until recently, Cohen lived just a stone’s throw away in a West Village townhouse, which he sold for a whopping $12 million to a Broadway playwright.

One side of the dumpster features “Andy Cohen’s Corner” in yellow against a blue backdrop, while the opposite side reads, “Watch What Happens Live in This Corner.”

Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Segal also took part in the occasion. While presenting a polished plaque declaring January 6, 2025, as “Andy Cohen Day,” he humorously noted that it doesn’t really confer any special privileges.

Cohen reflected on his time in Hudson Square, saying, “It’s genuinely fun, and I truly feel honored. When we began, this area wasn’t as bustling as it is today. We love it here.” He also commended Disney for establishing a new studio just across the street.

“I hope everyone will toss their trash here with a smile,” he added.

This trash can naming marks a first in the five boroughs, with the city’s Sanitation Department clarifying that they were uninvolved in Cohen’s unique honor. The announcement came shortly after Cohen had a lively, alcohol-fueled exchange with former Mayor Adams during a New Year’s Eve broadcast in Times Square. This dynamic was even acknowledged by Cohen during his acceptance speech.

Right after the New Year’s ball drop, with a shot glass in hand, Cohen remarked on Adams’ controversial term: “We’ll make do with what you left us.”

In a quick comeback, Adams issued a terse response the following day: “I have two letters for him. AA.”

To which Cohen joked during the ceremony, “Listen, it was all in good fun, but where’s the lie?”
