New York City's 'We're With Colbert' rally for the late-night host falls flat

What a situation.

A rally in New York City organized to show support for Stephen Colbert, the host of the nearly-ending “Late Show,” saw attendance of fewer than twenty people on Sunday.

Those in charge of the gathering stated, “we’re with Colbert,” as they assembled outside the CBS Broadcasting Center in Manhattan.

“Our country was not perfect and never was,” the rally organizers mentioned.

They also commented on President Trump’s controversial nickname, referring to him as “Mangomssolini,” and expressed concern over losing what they see as foundational American rights.

CBS attributed the cancellation of Colbert’s show to declining viewership and profits, announcing it would conclude in May 2026. Critics, however, suggest that the decision reflects undue pressure from Trump.

The number of protesters peaked at around 20 during the event.

Shortly after Colbert was informed of the show’s end, CBS’s parent company confirmed a significant $8.4 billion merger with SkyDance Media, pending federal approval.

Colbert is known for his sharp commentary and often ridicules various figures.

This closure, according to an unnamed protester, is a “First Amendment attack.” They conveyed their frustration: “We can’t stand it.”

Interestingly, Colbert has faced criticism for primarily hosting left-leaning guests. Since 2022, data from a right-leaning organization noted he had welcomed 176 liberal guests compared to just one Republican.
