Authorities in upstate New York have charged two individuals with animal cruelty following the deaths of 21 dogs in their care. The couple, Robert Parlis, 48, and Anastasia Parlis, 38, were taken into custody at their dog boarding facility in Argyle after officers responded to reports about the conditions at the site.
Upon arrival, officers found that 21 dogs had died and one dog needed to be rushed to an emergency animal clinic for treatment, as stated by the authorities.
Investigators reported that the couple allegedly failed to provide sufficient water and ventilation for the animals.
A local girl, Hannah Elmore, shared her excitement about returning home to reunite with her family dog, Piglet, after a family trip. “My father told us,” Hannah remarked when discussing her pet.
She described Piglet, a three-year-old dog, as always being there for her and fondly recalled the little jingles of her collar. “I miss the little jingles,” she added.
Leah Brown was also on vacation when she received the heartbreaking news that her dog, Rex, had died. Investigators informed her that a malfunction in the ventilation system at the facility led to Rex suffocating.
The couple faces 22 charges related to animal cruelty, including neglect and failing to provide sufficient nutrition. They have been released on tickets and will need to appear in court at a later date. Meanwhile, the dog boarding facility’s social media page has been taken down.
