Former New York Governor David Paterson and his son-in-law were attacked by three young suspects while walking their dog on the Upper East Side on Friday night, his spokesman and law enforcement officials announced.
Officials said Patterson, 70, and his wife's 20-year-old son encountered a group of three people, possibly teenagers, on Second Avenue near East 96th Street shortly before 9 p.m.
Mr Patterson's spokesman, Sean Darcy, told the paper that the group of men had “previously had interactions with his son-in-law”.
“Both men sustained some injuries, but were able to fight off the attackers.”
The former governor and the young man suffered minor injuries to their faces. Officials said the son-in-law's injuries were more serious.
They were taken to a local hospital for treatment, officials said.
No arrests had been made as of late Friday.
