A New Yorker reporter was ridiculed for trying to portray former President Donald Trump as irrelevant when in fact he was ignorant about reporting on his rival.
article Qualified Susan Glasser's “Donald Trump's Debate Was Truly Bad” chronicles what she sees as Trump's missteps in Tuesday's debate with Vice President Kamala Harris.
“Did she actually say she supported that?”
At one point, she revealed her ignorance of the extreme positions Democratic candidates have taken in the past.
The Vice President's comment that he would like to give sex reassignment surgery to illegal immigrants in prison was also impressive. What on earth was he talking about? No one knows, but of course that's exactly what Harris was trying to say. Trump was completely unprepared for the debate, and at times even he didn't seem to know what he was talking about.
Indeed, Trump was relying on a report by CNN's KFILE investigators that found that just five years earlier, Harris had spoken out in support of sex-reassignment surgery for illegal immigrants in prison — a revelation so shocking that CNN anchor Erin Burnett expressed confusion on air when Andrew Kaczynski broke the story.
“Providing taxpayer-funded sex-reassignment surgery for immigrants in detention? She actually said she supports that?” Barnett asked. “That's pretty incredible.”
Despite the criticism on Twitter, the New Yorker did not issue a correction, and Glasser's tweet on the issue was Fixed From a Twitter community note.
“The New Yorker is known for fact-checking. It would have taken less than five seconds to Google this.” said Film director Leighton Woodhouse.
“Susie, do you even watch CNN? You're so ignorant and naive.” said Another critic.
“Oh, you didn't research transgender people? We're all lazy sometimes.” read One jab.
Glasser was mocked on social media, but her criticism of Trump's debate performance was echoed by many on the right who said Trump was too willing to take the bait dangled by Harris.
