Newcomer Ronny Mauricio hits a powerful home run as the Mets defeat the struggling Rockies

Denver – Ronnie Mauricio’s Impressive MLB Debut

Ronnie Mauricio, the 24-year-old rookie for the Mets, has a knack for chasing and hitting the ball aggressively, but it’s his explosive power that really stands out.

On Saturday night, he reminded everyone just how appealing he is. Mauricio became part of a scoring rally by hitting his first major league home run — a jaw-dropping 456-foot shot — in the Mets’ 8-1 victory against the Rockies at Coors Field.

This win marked the Mets’ fifth consecutive victory against Colorado, with the team really hitting their stride, having recorded three home runs during the game. They are now poised to sweep the season series with a win on Sunday.

The Mets welcomed back their lineup to full strength, including Francisco Lindor, who returned after missing time due to a broken pinky toe. He had a strong outing, recording a single in his first two at-bats and stealing bases, perhaps easing any lingering worries about his toe.

Just the night before, he had come through with a clutch pinch-hit appearance that included a two-run double, which turned out to be decisive in the team’s success.

Clay Holmes took the mound, following up on Kodai Senga’s impressive performance from the prior game. Holmes allowed just one run over six innings while recording six strikeouts, needing only 95 pitches. Senga, by the way, had given up only one run too, but he had thrown a career-high 109 pitches.

Mauricio set the tone early with his home run, igniting excitement among the fans and teammates alike.

Interestingly, just the night before, he had snapped a stretch of 0-11 at the plate with a triple that nearly cleared the left field fence. After that, the Mets had recalled him earlier in the week due to injury issues with Mark Vientos.

Ryan McMahon tied things up for the Rockies with a solo homer in the fourth inning, marking the eighth home run Holmes has allowed over his last six starts. However, he has generally managed to limit damage by ensuring there are no base runners on.

Then, in the fifth, Jared Young responded with a homer that put the Mets back in the lead. This was his second home run in 20 at-bats since joining the team.

Mauricio kept the momentum going with a single and swiped second base, paving the way for Brandon Nimmo to hit an RBI single, extending the lead to 3-1.

Holmes faced a bit of trouble in the fifth when he allowed a bloop double but managed to get out of the jam. Jeff McNeill then added to the Mets’ lead with a solo homer in the sixth, his fourth of the season.

Mauricio did have a fielding miscue later on, but Holmes overcame it, securing the final out of the night. The base was loaded for the Mets when Tyrone Taylor’s sacrifice fly widened the gap, followed by a two-run single from Lewis Torrens, solidifying the Mets’ lead to 7-1.

Throughout the inning, both Nemo and Soto drew walks, while Pete Alonso added another single to the mix. Nimmo capped the performance with an RBI double in the eighth, marking the Mets’ last run.

Jose Boto and Jose Castillo closed out the game with three scoreless innings, allowing manager Carlos Mendoza to rest high-leverage arms in the bullpen. Mendoza acknowledged the need for caution, particularly with pitchers like Reed Garrett, who had seen heavy use recently.
