California Governor and Vice President Clash Over Immigration Policy
This weekend, California Governor Gavin Newsom and Vice President JD Vance found themselves at odds regarding the Trump administration’s significant deportation strategy. The exchange occurred after Vance, while at Disneyland with his family, made a social media post that attracted responses from the governor.
Vance shared moments with his wife, Usha, and their two children at the amusement park. However, other families, particularly those from immigrant backgrounds, expressed their struggles on social media, sharing how the administration’s policies affected their family time due to fears of detention and deportation.
“I hope you enjoy your family time, @jdvance. The family you are torn certainly won’t,” Newsom tweeted in response.
The Vice President replied by expressing gratitude to Newsom but didn’t address the governor’s pointed remarks about family separation. “I had a great time, thank you,” Vance stated.
Meanwhile, protests erupted in Anaheim as demonstrators voiced their dissent against both Vance and the administration’s immigration stance.
This visit by Vance came on the heels of a recent incident where ICE conducted raids on two California farms, leading to significant immigration enforcement efforts. These actions sparked outrage, resulting in protests against such operations. Tragically, one individual was killed, and another sustained serious injuries during the raids.
US Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott reported the discovery of ten undocumented minors at a farm in Camarillo. The agency is now investigating potential violations regarding child labor.
Additionally, confusion arose from various immigration operations linked to cannabis farms in California. Reports indicated that these activities resulted in confrontations between federal agents and protesters. This wave of protests has gained momentum over the past few weeks, particularly in response to attacks targeting migrant workers in local businesses. In an attempt to enhance security, the administration has dispatched National Guard troops and Marines to Los Angeles, despite Governor Newsom’s objections.
