Newsom calls biological men in women’s sports ‘deeply unfair’ on governor’s new podcast

California Governor Gavin Newsom discovered something in common with Turning Point USA founder and conservative activist Charlie Kirk when the liberal governor rumoured to be focused on the 2028 presidential election agreed that biological men in women's sports were “deeply unfair.”

“A young man trying to win a state championship with a long jump in women's sports, that shouldn't happen,” Kirk said in his debut episode on his new podcast, “This is Gavin Newsom Is Gavin Newsom.” “As governor, you should go out and say no. Do you do that? Do you say there are no men in women's sports?”

“Well, I think it's a matter of fairness,” Newsom replied. “I totally agree with you. That's deeply unfair.”

Kirk also pushed Newsom on whether to condemn the recent victory of a trans track athlete with a jump of over 40 feet at Julpa Valley High School in Southern California. Newsom didn't directly address the victory, but said, “It's a fair question.”

“So it's easy to tell the injustice of that,” said Newsom, a Democrat torchbearer. “There's humility and grace too. These poor people are more likely to commit suicide, anxiety and depression, and the way people talk to vulnerable communities is a problem I struggle with too.”

“So I can hold both of them in my hands,” the governor continued. “How can you deal with this issue with such decency that you know is unique to you, but you don't think it's always expressed in this issue?”

Transgender athletes in California have long been protected before the Newsom administration under AB 1266. This is also known as the School Success and Opportunity Law. The law was signed in August 2013 by Democrat Gov. Jerry Brown.

However, Senate Bill 132, also known as the Transgender Respect, Agency and Dignity Act, allows inmates to require cells and searches that match the gender identity they signed in September 2020.

Newsom agreed that the trans issue was “crushed” his party. Kirk said that “compassion” should be expressed while calling cases like the recent incident at Jurupa Valley High School “unfair.” If Democrats want to revive among the younger generations, part of the conversation took place after Kirk told Newsom to “get better ideas.”

Student Ab Hernandez won the invitation on February 22nd, kicking out the female runner-up who jumped over 32 feet in the competition category. Hernandez also finished first in the tournament in two other events.

The victory comes as all Senate Democrats voted against a bill banning transgender women from women's sports across the country last month. The bill failed to meet the 60-vote threshold required in the Senate, and lawmakers voted along party line 51-45.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order in February entitled “Stop Men from Women's Sports,” calling transgender athletes in women's sports “depressing, unfair and dangerous to women and girls.” The order requires an agency that receives federal funds to comply with Title IX and to follow the definition of biological sex.
