California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) has called a special session of the California Legislature to “Trump-proof” the state against any actions the incoming federal government may intend, prompting a rebuke from the president-elect.
“I have just convened an emergency special session of Congress to strengthen our legal resources and protect our state from any illegal actions by the incoming Trump administration,” Newsom wrote on Twitter.
“Whether it's fundamental civil rights, reproductive freedom or climate action, we refuse to turn back the clock or allow our values and laws to be attacked. ”
President-elect Trump responded on his social media platform Truth Social, saying Newsom was calling it “Trump Proof'' as a way to stop all the great things he could do to “make California great again.'' “I'm using words,” he said.
Mr. Newsom may be trying to become the leader of the so-called “resistance” (a glorified and controversial term meaning “opposition”) against Mr. Trump, but Mr. That might make it more difficult for him considering he won nearly 40%. California's own vote.
Newsom frequently clashed with the first Trump administration over issues such as immigration, water, high-speed rail and wildfires, but Trump provided emergency aid to states when needed.
