California Gov. Gavin Newsom (d) signed two bills on Friday that would provide $50 million to combat President Donald Trump's policies.
Both bills were passed after a special legislative meeting called by Newsom after the election. Newsom and the Democrat-controlled Congress have reached a deal to fund anti-Trump efforts, despite the Palisade Fire and Eton Fire still smoldering in Los Angeles.
1 invoice, SBX1-1, Provided “Additional funds to make it available to the Department of Justice for federal policy litigation agendas. The other is SBX1-2; Provided “Funds for legal services to vulnerable individuals at risk of detention and deportation [or] Eviction” – in other words, to illegal aliens. Both were featured by State Sen. Scott Winner (D-San Francisco).
The bill was passed earlier this week. Newsom waited until his visit in Washington was over, and until Friday afternoon (many people are unlikely to quit their jobs and notice the news) to sign the law spending.
Signed statement Newsom, attached to SBX1-2, says that illegal immigrants will not use funds for illegal immigrants “convicted of a violent felony.” However, the text of the bill says nothing.
Newsom is seeking billions of dollars in federal aid to clean up and rebuild the destroyed communities.
