California Governor Newsom Faces Criticism Over Policies

California Governor Gavin Newsom has often been seen as a potential candidate for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination. However, political commentator Kevin Dalton points out that Newsom’s track record may raise some concerns.

“Clearly, allowing severely mentally ill individuals and drug addicts to roam the streets hasn’t worked out,” Dalton expressed during a segment on Blaze TV’s “Stu Does America.” He referred to Newsom’s initiative from a few years back aimed at addressing these issues.

This initiative, known as CARE Court, is designed to provide resources like free housing, medication, and job training to people grappling with homelessness and mental health challenges.

“Now, after two years, we’ve finally gotten some numbers from CARE Court,” Dalton stated. “It’s astonishing how hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars have vanished, especially since Newsom pledged that this would help around 50,000 people a year.” He went on to explain that only a few thousand people ended up enrolling, many of whom ended up being excluded by the courts.

“In fact, only 22 people were eventually mandated into CARE Court,” he continued. “This truly exemplifies how millions—hundreds of millions, really—get squandered without yielding any real results, while Newsom just moves on to the next initiative.”

Dalton highlighted that the expenditure amounted to nearly $250 million, pointing out, “That means about $220 million for just 22 people. It’s hard to fathom, even for California.”

In addition to these issues, California has been grappling with devastating wildfires, which have led to the destruction of thousands of homes. Many families are currently waiting for permits to rebuild their lives.

“Meanwhile, costs are rising, staff numbers are increasing, and corporate buyers are swooping in to acquire land—it’s utter chaos,” Dalton noted. “You’d think someone eyeing the presidency would prioritize tackling homelessness and helping people rebuild after such catastrophic fires.”
