Newsweek magazine faced intense ridicule on social media and had to issue a correction after it included a quote from a parody account on social media.
The outlet announced that article The article, titled “Surprised Republican and Democratic Reactions to Hunter Biden Pardon,” reported on the sweeping pardon that President Joe Biden granted his son on Sunday. Some of the citations were incorrectly attributed to Parikh Patel, the father of Federal Bureau of Investigation director candidate Kash Patel.
“It's completely humiliating for you, but it's not surprising in the slightest.”
“Joe Biden was so concerned about my son Kash becoming FBI Director that he decided to pardon Hunter Biden of all crimes,” said Dr. Parikh Patel, ACCA Esq., CFA. I'm writing.
However, this account was actually a parody account, and Newsweek was quickly derided for not verifying the account's identity.
“Newsweek's quoting of Kash Patel's father is not only a very obvious parody of the account they quoted, but also clearly marked as such. It embodies “journalism.” answered Author Hans Manke.
“Oh my god! @ParikPatelCFA is a parody account and not @Kash_Patel's father, you idiot. Legacy Media is a joke!” answered India Policy Account.
“This kind of 'quality' journalism can't even grasp an obvious parody article that literally says 'parody' in the bio. That's totally humiliating to you, but not the least bit surprising.” read Another reply.
Newsweek later removed the quote and issued a correction.
Parody accounts reacted to the embarrassing incident and expressed their gratitude to the media.
“Thank you @Newsweek “For spreading my message, Hunter Biden was pardoned just before his son Kash was charged with a crime,” the account said. Posted.
In October, Newsweek was similarly derided for characterizing President-elect Donald Trump's McDonald's promotional stunt as “staged.”
