Nexstar Media Group hires Bill Sammon as EVP of The Hill, NewsNation

Nexstar Media Group announced Wednesday that Bill Sammon has been named senior vice president of editorial content for The Hill and NewsNation.

Sammon, a former Fox News executive, will take office on November 18.

“We're thrilled to have Bill on board,” said Shelly Guzek, NewsNation's president of news and politics. “Bill's impeccable credentials as a journalist are well known and make him the perfect leader to oversee The Hill and NewsNation's joint reporting operations in Washington, D.C. Bill is a great addition to our team. He will be an important person.”

Sammon spent more than 10 years at Fox, where he served as editor-in-chief and senior vice president of news. He oversaw presidential debates and the network's decision desk, where he predicted winners and losers in national elections.

In a press release announcing Sammon's hiring, Nexstar touted him as the first person to declare President Biden the winner of Arizona in the 2020 election, although the state was Biden's last. It was an important state that paved the way for a major election, and the decision drew the ire of former President Trump at the time.

Mr. Sammon left the station in January of the following year, as did political editor Chris Stilwald, who now hosts NewsNation's Sunday public affairs show.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with an amazing team of great journalists at Nexstar. Last week we told the world exactly who would be elected president, and this week we did the same for the House of Representatives earlier than any other news organization. “This move once again demonstrated Nexstar's unwavering commitment to accurate, high-quality journalism,” Salmon said in the release. .

The Hill and NewsNation have partnered with Decision Desk Headquarters on this year's election. DDHQ was the first to predict that Trump would win the presidential election, and the first to predict that Republicans would retain the House majority.

Nexstar launched NewsNation in 2021 and has steadily added hosts and a roster of political shows since then. The company acquired The Hill in August of the same year.
