Vrabel Not Investigated After Russini’s Resignation
Just days after Deanna Russini, a senior NFL reporter, resigned amid allegations of an affair with Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel at a luxury resort in Arizona, the league announced that Vrabel would not be investigated in connection with the incident.
ESPN reported that an NFL spokesperson confirmed no disciplinary action would be taken against Vrabel under the league’s personal conduct policy, which allows for inquiries into actions that might compromise the NFL’s integrity or public trust.
When asked about Vrabel’s ongoing role in the organization ahead of the draft, Patriots GM Elliott Wolf stated it was “business as usual.”
Last month, Vrabel, who previously won a Super Bowl and is now a head coach, was photographed in a hot tub at an Arizona resort alongside Russini, a reporter for The Athletic.
Vrabel has maintained that his relationship with Russini was non-sexual, asserting, “These photos show a completely innocent interaction, and any suggestion otherwise is laughable. I don’t deserve any further response.”
Russini defended the encounter as well, stating, “The photo does not represent the group of six people who were playing during the day. Like most NFL journalists, reporters interact with sources away from stadiums and other venues.”
However, this explanation didn’t sit well with her employer, The Athletic, which investigated the incident but seemed unconvinced that Russini’s relationship with Vrabel was entirely innocent.
Following the investigation, Russini decided to resign from The Athletic. Meanwhile, Vrabel has opted not to address the media in recent weeks since the photo surfaced. However, with the draft approaching, it’s likely he’ll make an appearance in front of cameras soon.
