New England Patriots Running Back Raises Awareness for Persecuted Christians

New England Patriots’ Trevellon Henderson, who committed his life to Jesus Christ several years ago, is shining a light on the persecution faced by Christians globally.

During the NFL’s “My Cause, My Cleats” event, Henderson brought attention to Global Christian Relief (GCR), which provides assistance to over 300 million Christians worldwide.

Henderson and his wife creatively designed the cleats he wore during the December 1 game. The artwork featured imagery of blood, people kneeling in prayer, crosses, and individuals raising crosses. The back of the cleat displayed the Bible verse Matthew 5:10, along with “Faith endures forever.”

In this passage, it reads, “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.”

“The blood dripping onto the cleats symbolizes the blood shed on the cross, as well as the sacrifices made by those who sought Christ and ultimately faced death for their faith,” Henderson explained regarding the design.

The GCR website also features a map on one of the cleats, illustrating regions where persecution is most severe.

Bishop Wilfred Anagbe from Nigeria’s Benue state addressed the House of Representatives in November about the violence that Christians regularly endure there. He expressed gratitude to President Trump for labeling the nation as a danger zone for religious freedom.

Henderson expressed deep concern for Christians suffering in Nigeria, saying, “God put me in this position for a reason. I want to lead others to Christ and support those who are enduring persecution.”

He mentioned feeling heartbroken multiple times upon learning about the murders of Christians, which motivated him to take action.

“Jesus warned us that following Him would not be without challenges and sacrifices. But, ultimately, it is worth it. I believe God is merciful, and as His followers, we too must be merciful. We are called to love and support one another as brothers and sisters in faith,” he stated.
