NFL Schedule Release Day Sparks Social Media Excitement
Thursday was memorable, let’s say, especially for those who follow soccer. But maybe it’s more accurate to say, it was a significant day for aspiring influencers masquerading as soccer enthusiasts and social media aficionados.
If you’re not familiar, Thursday marked the NFL Schedule Release Day. On this day, all 32 social media teams hopped onto the trending wave and briefly captured the spotlight, unveiling what the upcoming season looks like for fans.
I previously touched on the questionable choice of unveiling the Kansas City Chiefs’ schedule through a sourdough bread theme, which they later remedied with a QVC-style presentation that had a real ’90s vibe. However, Thursday was the moment for each team’s followers to receive their eagerly awaited schedule release clips.
Paige Spiranac and her mother impressed many online, while Lane Kiffin made a stunning shot at Ole Miss. The NFL really did it again.
As if on cue, fans lined up like eager hamsters, soaking up the dopamine rush dispensed by the NFL.
Honestly, if anyone’s really giddy about this, they come off sounding like a teenager chatting excitedly.
“Did you catch that Trevor Lawrence cut his hair?”
Admittedly, there were some clever ideas, like the Colts depicting a scene from The Simpsons and the Chargers’ “Halo” inspired release (I suspect they have a talented social media manager). So, some effort was clear in various productions, though perhaps not so much for the Jets.
Speaking of the Chargers, it’s amusing to notice we’ve entered an age where folks eagerly anticipate what one team will bring to the table.
On Thursday, you couldn’t scroll through social media for more than a few seconds without someone speculating about whether the Chargers would reference Russini and Vrabel.
Hey, isn’t it wild how the chaotic schedule of football games morphs into the Super Bowl on Sundays?
By the way, it’s sort of ridiculous how social media managers can get so worked up over a schedule reveal, really lacking the self-awareness to appreciate the absurdity.
There are 31 rival teams, 17 games in the season, and each team plays within their division twice. Adding to that, depending on last year’s standings, you already know which divisions you’ll face. So, are there really many surprises in store?
“Oh, we’ve got to play the Colts, *in Indy*? Didn’t see that coming!”
It’s puzzling. Did folks forget that Indianapolis has a professional football team?
Maybe I’m coming off as a snobbish college football fan—my team’s schedule has been known for ages—but I’m not too thrilled.
Has anyone considered which college team is gearing up for the toughest matchups?
Just a reminder: the University of Florida lined up a home-and-home series against Notre Dame five years back, but that matchup is still half a decade away (unless playoff expansions mess everything up).
September 11, 2032. The Irish arrive at the swamp. Make a note, everyone!
Or should I simply create a TikTok featuring Ice Spice rapping about every non-conference game the Gators play for the next decade, with Steve Spurrier nodding approvingly in the background?
Regardless, this whole “social media schedule release competition” seems to contradict what soccer athletes embody.
How can you get hyped about a game that hasn’t occurred yet? What ever happened to the mindset of taking it “one week at a time” and not looking too far ahead?
Honestly, Vince Lombardi would probably be rolling in his grave if he knew.
Enjoy the memes and nostalgic throwbacks to keep your spirits up when training camp starts.
