NFL to look into Ravens regarding Lamar Jackson's injury report management after he was ruled out against the Bears

NFL Investigates Ravens’ Handling of Lamar Jackson’s Injury

The NFL is looking into how the Baltimore Ravens managed the injury designation for star quarterback Lamar Jackson ahead of their game against the Chicago Bears.

Jackson has been dealing with a hamstring issue and was anticipated to rejoin the Ravens’ lineup this week following a bye. However, just before the game at 1 p.m. on Sunday, he was ruled out. While he participated fully in Friday’s practice and was expected to play, the decision to exclude him was made on Saturday.

If found in violation of the league’s injury reporting rules, the Ravens could face disciplinary action.

NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy mentioned, “The league will consider this.” He indicated that the league would review any matters related to changes in player status.

In response, the Ravens issued a statement claiming they reached out to the league before making their decision on Jackson.

“After further evaluation today and consultation with league officials, Lamar did not start in practice, and we have updated our report to reflect his participation,” the statement elaborated.

According to ESPN, Jackson was initially on the field as a full participant on Friday, although he was involved with the scout team while Tyler “Snoop” Huntley operated the offense.

Huntley was set to take the field Sunday in place of Cooper Rush, who had been starting since Jackson’s injury. However, after a blowout loss to the Los Angeles Rams, Huntley had encountered challenges moving the offense and had spent some time on the bench.

This situation arises at a tough moment for the Ravens, who are currently struggling with a record of 1-5 and dealing with Jackson’s ongoing health concerns—quite a shock for a team aiming for the Super Bowl.

Hamilton, a safety with the Ravens, shared an optimistic perspective on the team’s trajectory, recognizing the importance of Jackson’s contributions. “Lamar is our quarterback, the person who draws the crowd, sells tickets, and helps us win,” Hamilton noted. He emphasized that while the defense plays a role, ultimately, it is Jackson who drives the team’s success.

With Jackson sidelined, the Ravens will need to look to Huntley, who holds a career record of 3-7 and has thrown seven touchdowns against seven interceptions over ten games in five seasons.

This situation has further complicated an already challenging season for the Ravens, who have been without Jackson’s influence on the field.
