Nick Kyrgios Expresses Disappointment Over Wimbledon Commentary Decision
Nick Kyrgios seems to be feeling competitive not only on the tennis court but also off it.
In a recent interview with The Guardian, he criticized the BBC for not bringing him back as a commentator for this year’s Wimbledon, while also commenting on his replacement.
“I know I’m a great commentator,” Kyrgios stated. “For 20 years, I’ve played this sport, studied it. I think what tennis needs are commentators who offer unique insights, not just the same old lines.”
“Honestly, I think it’s more of their loss than mine,” he added. “Sure, they’ve got Chris Eubanks, but he hasn’t exactly faced the best since.”
“I’m confident our paths will cross again,” Kyrgios added. “I really want to bring humor, knowledge, and good vibes.”
Eubanks, currently ranked 108th in the world, hasn’t been officially confirmed by the network for Wimbledon coverage.
Kyrgios was on the airwaves with the BBC during last year’s Wimbledon, taking a break due to a wrist injury.
The network’s decision to bring Kyrgios on board drew some controversy, especially after he acknowledged an assault on his ex-girlfriend in the past.
Notably, the 30-year-old hasn’t competed at Wimbledon since losing to Novak Djokovic in the final in 2022 due to injury. Unfortunately, he will miss this year’s tournament as well, as he’s now facing knee issues.
“Sadly, I won’t be back for the grass season this year,” Kyrgios shared on his Instagram story earlier this month. “But hey, this is just a bump in the road… I’m putting in the work to come back strong.”
