Support for Brian Daboll

Brian Daboll is gaining some notable support in his potential move to college football.

In a recent segment on “The Pat McAfee Show,” celebrated coach Nick Saban expressed his backing for Daboll, the former Alabama offensive coordinator and ex-Giants head coach, as a candidate for the head coaching position at Penn State.

“I really admire Brian,” Saban shared. “He excelled here as an offensive coordinator. We secured championships thanks to his strategic play-calling. Plus, he’s clinched several Super Bowls with Bill Belichick. He brings a lot to the table: he’s intelligent, an adept recruiter, and forms solid relationships with players. His teaching skills are impressive, and he possesses a keen offensive mind. I truly believe he could assemble a strong coaching staff. He would be a fantastic hire.”

Recently, Penn State parted ways with James Franklin during his twelfth season after the team stumbled following a promising start of 3-0, losing three consecutive games.

Initially, the Nittany Lions were ranked as the No. 2 preseason team, but they now find themselves in 13th place within the Big Ten, boasting a record of 5-6. The team is eager for someone to leverage their talented roster effectively.

Daboll, who faced dismissal from the Giants on November 10 after a rough start with a 2-8 record over three years, previously worked with Saban in 2017, contributing to a national championship win. Since then, he’s carved out a significant presence in the NFL, particularly on the offensive side of the game.

He played an instrumental role in guiding Bills quarterback Josh Allen to his first Pro Bowl appearance in 2020, which gave him the confidence to advance with the Giants. His tenure concluded on a high note, marked by a 7-2 start in 2022 and the Giants’ first playoff victory since their 2012 Super Bowl win. Daboll even snagged the NFL Coach of the Year award that same year.

However, events took a downturn afterward, leading Daboll to search for new coaching opportunities.

If he’s eyeing a first-time head coaching role in college, he might have to navigate challenges he hasn’t encountered in the professional leagues, such as navigating NIL agreements and the dynamics of the ever-changing transfer portal.
