Nick Saban thinks about what Bill Belichick will have to overcome while progressing to the college level.
During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Friday, the legendary college football coach shared his thoughts on eight-time Super Bowl champion Belichick's appointment to the University of North Carolina.
“I'm happy for Bill. I think he probably wanted a new challenge and this is definitely going to be a new challenge for him,” Saban said during the televised broadcast. “The difference in college is how do you bring players to your team? For drafters, it's different than recruiting. Recruiting is full-time, 365 days a year, 365 days a year. Because it's like building. [effort] Not only in terms of evaluating the players we want, but also in terms of building relationships to acquire players. ”
Saban claims the process of recruiting players to Chapel Hill will be the most difficult part for the 72-year-old Belichick.
“The biggest challenge for him is the time he has to spend recruiting players, making phone calls, talking to parents, all that stuff to get the kind of players he needs… The biggest adjustment for us was the time we spent recruiting,” Saban said.

The two have been friends for years, as then-Browns head coach Belichick hired Saban as defensive coordinator, his first job in the NFL from 1991 to 1994.
Their more than 40-year relationship was chronicled in the 2019 HBO Sports documentary “Belichick & Saban: The Art of Coaching.”
Unlike Belichick, Saban has already been a head coach at both the NFL and college levels, leading the Dolphins for two seasons in 2005-2006 and spending 28 seasons as a college football head coach, including It also includes seven national titles.
