Nicolas Cage revises his ‘homeless’ claims after a sinkhole disaster at his $10M Malibu mansion

Nicolas Cage has clarified comments suggesting he was “a little bit homeless,” saying he was referring to his Malibu home being unavailable for Halloween—not to his family being without a place to stay.

The actor’s $10.5 million beachfront property was damaged in September after coastal erosion caused a sinkhole to open near the home. At a Comic Con event over the weekend, Cage was asked about his Halloween plans and said he was staying in hotels because of the damage.

“I’m currently a little bit homeless,” he said, adding that he wouldn’t have the usual trick-or-treaters he likes to welcome. He planned to take his four-year-old daughter, August, trick-or-treating in nearby Santa Monica, then watch Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining.”

Cage later said he had been joking around with an interviewer and that his words had been taken out of context. He meant that his house wasn’t available for decorations or handing out candy, he explained.

“We’re content. We’re fine. We’re not destitute. We’re okay,” he said.

Hurricane Marie formed in the Pacific in September, bringing large waves and high tides that contributed to coastal erosion. More than 30 homes along a private road near the western end of Malibu were evacuated after officials said the loss of road access could prevent emergency crews from reaching residents.

Cage bought the roughly 4,000-square-foot home in 2024 for $10.5 million.
