Recently, Nicolas Maduro, the leader of Venezuela, was presented with a large-caliber rifle by a cadet from the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB).
He didn’t elaborate much, simply stating that the weapon would “always be put to good use” while it’s in his possession.
This gesture took place during a year-end ceremony for FANB members at the Venezuelan Naval Academy in Catia la Mar, Vargas state, as reported by VTV, the main state news channel. They characterized the rifle as a symbol of Maduro’s commitment to defending the country’s sovereignty and its natural resources.
On Monday, Maduro shared a heavily edited video of the rifle presentation on his TikTok account. The footage included enhancements to emphasize the rifle, along with added sound effects. In the clip, Maduro appeared in military attire and held a baton.
He expressed gratitude by saying, “I accept this gift with great pleasure and assure everyone that this rifle will be in safe hands.”
Maduro also addressed the U.S. military presence in Caribbean waters and criticized past U.S. policies, describing Venezuela as being “under attack” for several months. He contended this situation is part of a long-standing campaign against his nation.
Argentine news outlet Infobae reported that the rifle is a “.50 caliber sniper rifle.” The presentation coincided with increased U.S. pressure on Maduro, who called for unwavering loyalty from the military during the ceremony.
Currently, U.S. forces are engaged in Operation Southern Spear, aimed at combating maritime drug trafficking. This operation has reportedly targeted numerous drug-trafficking vessels in recent months.
Despite the ongoing drug operation, Maduro maintained that U.S. anti-drug activities are actually attempts to invade and destabilize Venezuela, accusing them of trying to seize the country’s resources. He made a point to underline his view against utilizing military force, referring to it as contrary to Christian values.
President Trump recently mentioned in a radio interview that U.S. forces had successfully neutralized a drug-trafficking facility in Venezuela, marking a significant escalation in their military actions.
Furthermore, Maduro’s regime has been promoting its supposed successes in the fight against drugs, claiming an effective model against trafficking in South America and celebrating its military’s reported takedowns of drug planes.
