Nicole Kidman shares wisdom with her daughters on dealing with public criticism and negativity

Nicolas Kidman Reflects on Life and Motherhood

Nicolas Kidman has always been no stranger to the limelight. In a recent interview, she shared her thoughts on navigating public scrutiny and online criticism, something she’s keen on passing down to her teenage daughters.

When discussing how to cope with negativity, Kidman advised, “Literally get out of there…it will destroy you.”

The Family Dynamic

She encourages her daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14, to embrace resilience, even referencing Taylor Swift’s famous advice to “shake it off.” Kidman mentioned Sunday Rose is beginning to make her own way in the fashion world, having started modeling last year and already walking for Miu Miu. She admits, “It’s very scary for me,” reflecting on her own early start in the industry at age 14. It’s a tricky path for her, with no solid ground to stand on, perhaps.

Kidman shares her two younger children with Keith Urban, from whom she filed for divorce on September 30, after nearly two decades of marriage.

New Beginnings

Prior to her marriage to Urban, Kidman was with Tom Cruise for over a decade, which makes her journey even more complex. They crossed paths during the filming of “Days of Thunder” in 1989, eventually adopting two children, Isabella and Connor, before parting ways in 2001.

In another reflection, Kidman pondered the uncertainty of life in her 50s. “How many times do you think you know where your life is going, only to find out it’s headed in the opposite direction?” she mused.

Interestingly, at the time of her interview, news of her split hadn’t been publicly announced, but by the time it appeared in print on October 8, she had already initiated the divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences.”

Facing Challenges

Kidman has been more open about her life since the split, sharing parts of her journey on social media. She expressed gratitude for her Vogue cover shoot and has recently showcased a new hairstyle reminiscent of her character in “Big Little Lies” while at Paris Fashion Week with her daughters.

This period has clearly called for support from friends, including her neighbor and fellow actress, Reese Witherspoon. Kidman noted, “I can wave from my kitchen to hers!” expressing appreciation for what she describes as a “ride-or-die friendship.”

Amidst these transitions, Kidman emphasized that the ups and downs of life — the losses and challenges — fuel her creativity. “I bring that into my work,” she reflected, remarking on how these experiences can shape her artistic output.
