Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley said former President Donald Trump is mentally “deteriorating” and is no longer as capable as he was in 2016.

Haley made the remarks Sunday morning on CBS' “Face the Nation” with host Margaret Brennan. Mr. Brennan asked Ms. Haley whether she saw evidence of Mr. Trump's mental breakdown while serving in Mr. Trump's cabinet as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

“If you look at it recently, there's a lot going on,” Haley said. “He claimed Joe Biden was going to take us into World War II. I think he meant World War III. He said he was at odds with President Obama. He has never opposed President Obama.”

“Don't be surprised. If you have an 80-year-old president, their mental stability will continue to decline. That's human nature,” Haley said. “If you look at Joe Biden, he's a lot different than he was two years ago. Are we really going to get into a situation where there are wars all over the world and we're trying to stop them? And wars will happen. Who doesn't know if it's confusing? ”

“This is a real issue. No disrespect, just a fact,” she added.

Haley went on to say that during her time in the Trump administration, she repeatedly told Trump if she thought something he did was wrong.

DeSantis is campaigning in New Hampshire, but most of his staff is out in South Carolina.

“He's not at the same level as he was in 2016. I think we're seeing some of that decline,” she said.

Haley is gaining support in New Hampshire and South Carolina after finishing third in the Iowa caucuses earlier this month. Trump won the caucus by the widest lead of any candidate, followed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Haley blamed Iowa's poor turnout on record low temperatures, with much of the state sub-zero on Election Day.

“Look at Iowa. So President Trump won a state of 3 million people by 56,000 votes. Turnout in Iowa was very low, but in New Hampshire it was very low. It’s going to be a good turnout,” Haley told reporters Friday. .

Trump defended himself this weekend at a rally with supporters in New Hampshire, claiming he is mentally healthier than ever.

“I don't mind being 80 years old, but the fact that I'm 77 years old makes a big difference,” he said. “I feel like my heart is stronger now than it was 25 years ago.”
