Nikki Haley suggests she’s no longer bound by RNC pledge to back eventual nominee

Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley has indicated she may no longer be bound by a promise to the Republican National Committee to support the eventual nominee.

“At the time of the debate, we had to accept that,” Haley said in an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that aired Sunday. “The RNC is not the same RNC now,” she added, hinting at upcoming changes at the organization orchestrated by her rival and leading Republican front-runner, Donald Trump.

When further asked if she would be bound by that pledge, Haley responded, “No, I think whatever decisions I make will be up to me, but that’s not what I’m thinking about.” Ta.

If Haley withdraws from the race, Trump will be the only Republican she can support, unless she crosses party lines and supports Democrats.

To be eligible to participate in RNC-sanctioned debates, candidates had to pledge to support the eventual nominee, among other pledges. Mr. Trump did not participate in these arguments.

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has publicly vowed not to support Trump in November’s presidential election, despite his pledge.

So far, he has not been penalized for that. Christie refused to endorse Haley after she dropped out in January, citing concerns that she would endorse Trump.

“Republican voters gave President Trump big wins in every primary, and this race is over. Our focus now is on Joe Biden and the general election,” said Caroline Levitt, the Trump campaign’s national press secretary. Haley told the Post when asked about her comments.

The Post has reached out to the RNC for comment.

Haley also condemned Trump’s actions surrounding the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, but stopped short of calling for him to be convicted in the pending federal case.

“Holding an assembly was not a crime. It’s questionable why they didn’t turn around and stop people from breaking the law when they had the opportunity to do so, and that’s what the courts have to deal with. I think that’s the case,” she said.

Haley also criticized Trump for maxing out the nation’s credit card and shifting the Republican Party in a more “isolationist” direction.

“I don’t know. I mean, I always like to think someone else will do it for me,” she said. “I don’t think there should be a president who is above the law. I don’t think there should be a president who is completely immune.”

Professor Haley also spoke about the controversy over IVF after the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that embryos should be classified as children, causing some IVF clinics to suspend operations. He also expressed his opinion on the controversy.

“I want to make sure every parent who wants that blessing gets it, and the government shouldn’t do anything to stop that,” said Haley, who supported federal protections.

She also talked about embryo protection, saying, “My personal opinion is that an embryo is a baby.”

More than a dozen presidential nominating elections are scheduled for Tuesday, comprising about a third of the leading delegates on the Republican side.
