Ninety-one percent believe that violence driven by political motives is a major issue: Survey

91 percent say politically motivated violence is a serious problem: Poll

A recent survey from Quinnipiac University highlights widespread concern among registered voters regarding politically motivated violence in the United States. The findings, released on Thursday, indicate that a significant majority believe this issue is quite serious.

In the poll conducted earlier this week, an impressive 91% of respondents expressed that politically motivated violence is a major concern, with 54% characterizing it as “very serious” and 37% as “somewhat serious.”

On the other hand, only 6% saw it as “not very serious,” while a mere 2% did not consider it a problem at all.

Interestingly, the perceptions of political violence don’t seem to vary much across party lines.

Among Republicans, 93% viewed political violence as serious, which includes 51% who labeled it “very serious.” For Democrats, the numbers were close, with 91% recognizing it as a serious issue, and 56% considering it “very serious.” Independents also reflected similar views, with 92% deeming it serious and 56% calling it “very serious.”

Tim Malloy, a voting analyst at Quinnipiac University, noted, “There is broad agreement across party boundaries that a cloud of potential political violence is looming across the country.”

This survey has caught the attention of lawmakers from both parties, especially as incidents of political violence seem to be on the rise in today’s political climate.

Just recently, former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband were tragically killed by gunmen, following an earlier attack on another Democrat, State Sen. John Hoffman, and his wife at their home. Authorities reported that the suspect had a notebook containing a hit list targeting Democrats.

Additionally, former President Trump has experienced two assassination attempts, one of which involved a bullet grazing his ear during a rally, resulting in visible injury.

The poll took place from June 22 to 24, capturing responses from 979 registered voters and carrying a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.
