Nissan recalls vehicles due to a defective component that could cause engine failure

Nissan is recalling nearly 443,900 vehicles from its own brand and the Infiniti brand in the US due to potentially faulty parts that could lead to engine failure.

The recall affects engine bearings in specific models, including the 2021-2024 Nissan Rogue, 2019-2020 Nissan Altima, 2019-2022 Infiniti QX50, and 2022 Infiniti QX55. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), these issues “can cause engine damage and failure.”

This problem is mostly associated with vehicles equipped with a three-cylinder 1.5-liter or a four-cylinder 2.0-liter variable compression turbo engine.

Owners might notice “abnormal noise” coming from the engine, rough performance, warning lights on the dashboard, or messages on the equipment cluster.

Additionally, over 37,800 vehicles, including the same models mentioned, have also been recalled in Canada for similar concerns regarding the engine.

Nissan indicated that this recall reflects its ongoing commitment to customer safety.

Affected owners will receive notifications starting August 22, 2025, advising them to take their vehicles to a Nissan dealer or Infiniti retailer for inspection and, if needed, repairs.

During the inspection at the dealership, staff will replace the oil pan gasket and engine oil, as well as reprogram the engine control modules. In cases involving the 3-cylinder engine, it will be inspected for debris; if the 4-cylinder has no debris, new engine oil will be added.

In instances where specific debris is confirmed, an engine replacement may be necessary, as noted in the NHTSA report.

Fortunately, no inspections or repairs are required for any affected customers.
