Nithya Raman provides strange reasoning for skipping TV interviews just days before major election

As Election Day approaches, Los Angeles mayoral candidate Nitya Raman has canceled her scheduled interview with a local TV station late at night, citing a “tongue injury.”

Raman, a Democratic Socialist, was set to appear on KTLA but withdrew in the late afternoon after her team reported that she had bitten her tongue.

KTLA anchor Mika Allman shared the news on air, noting, “Tonight, mayoral candidate City Councilor Nithya Raman was supposed to be here in the studio, but her team canceled due to a tongue injury.”

Allman also mentioned that the station had reached out multiple times to Mayor Karen Bass for an appearance, but all invitations were declined.

The station sought a comment from Raman, but she did not respond.

With the primary coming up on June 2, Raman, Bass, and reality TV star Spencer Pratt are looking to distinguish themselves from one another.

The three candidates are closely matched, with only one point separating Bass and Raman, while Pratt trails in third place.

Current polling shows Mayor Bass at 26%, Raman at 25%, and Pratt at 22%. The latest data indicates that both Raman and Pratt have gained 8 points since March, while Bass’s numbers have remained steady.

Raman has criticized Bass’s anti-homelessness program, which she describes as both costly and ineffective. In contrast, Pratt has directed his criticisms at Bass regarding the Palisades fire response, promising to assist the thousands displaced by it.

Bass, on the other hand, has raised concerns about Raman’s ability to collaborate with others at City Hall and has questioned Pratt’s qualifications for the mayoral role, a decision voters will be making soon.
