New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said Thursday that the staggering flurry of drone sightings over the Garden State over the past few weeks (albeit harmless) is a sign of the state's vulnerability to possible foreign drone attacks. He warned that it was a “wake-up call” against sexuality.
“I can tell you this based on the most sophisticated drone detection systems on the planet that began arriving in New Jersey last Friday and Saturday, there is no public threat here. I can say that unequivocally,” Murphy said. told News 12 New Jersey “Ask Governor Murphy” program.
But he added that doesn't mean Jersey or the entire country is not at risk.
“What we really need to worry about is the vulnerability we have as a nation to drone intrusion,” Murphy said. “That's a big problem.”
Democrats said the drone activity was a “benign wake-up call” about America's vulnerability to foreign powers. By comparison, it is different from the “tragic wake-up call'' of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
“Thank God no one was hurt here, no one was hurt. Thankfully no one passed,” Murphy said.
“But we are fragile as a nation. We have to deal with it,” he implored. “We all have to deal with this problem sooner or later, and New Jersey is no exception.”
“There are thousands, if not tens of thousands, of drones in the air every day,” Murphy said of the drones currently circling the skies of the Garden State.
He said the equipment is a combination of commercial, law enforcement, military and hobby aircraft.
However, some of the flying equipment objects are still shrouded in mystery.
“There may have been some suspicious activity a month ago,” Murphy said during the broadcast. “We had no sophisticated [detection] We'll probably never know what the systems we've been using over the past week look like. ”
Meanwhile, the Federal Aviation Administration has banned drone operations over certain areas of New Jersey from now until January 17th.
Since the drone first appeared over Jersey on Nov. 18, the FBI has received more than 5,000 reported sightings in the tri-state area, according to a statement Monday from the Department of Homeland Security, FBI, FAA and Federal Aviation Administration. He said he received information about. Department of Defense.
