A recently released video shows a former New Jersey police officer, Rebecca Sayegh, who was caught on camera violently striking her ex-boyfriend’s front door with a baton. During her arrest, she claimed to feel “sick” and threatened the arresting officer, saying, “Next time, I’m going to burn down your house.”
The 32-year-old, who has been permanently removed from law enforcement due to her jealousy-driven attack, unleashed an expletive-filled tirade at the officers trying to detain her in April, as shown in body camera footage.
She went on, “You said you were moving, get that motherfucker out of here,” reflecting her anger and agitation.
When ordered by the police to accompany them, Sayegh resisted, shouting, “No, I’ll go when I have all my clothes…wait a minute!”
“I’m calling the PBA executives,” she said, referencing the Police Benevolent Association, emphasizing her connections and trying to assert control over the situation.
As officers tried to restrain her, one shouted, “What are you doing?” In a heated exchange while being escorted out of her Berkeley home, she threatened again, stating she would “burn the house down, you son of a bitch!”
It wasn’t entirely clear from the footage who her threat was directed at, though police reported she intended to set fire to her ex’s house.
As she was being placed in a squad car, she remarked sarcastically, “At least your hair looks good today,” perhaps realizing that her actions would soon garner considerable attention.
On November 17, Sayegh pleaded guilty to assault for her actions, which occurred around 11:20 PM on April 25 when she broke down the door of her ex-girlfriend’s home. The confrontation escalated to include her ex and the new girlfriend inside.
Once in a relationship for five years, Sayegh’s disputes with her ex had growing tensions that ultimately led to her losing her law enforcement position. The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that she was “disqualified from all future public employment in the State of New Jersey.”
