Republican presidential candidate former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-South Carolina) was asked Friday on CNN’s “Inside Politics” about the Supreme Court’s hearing on former President Donald Trump’s presidential immunity claim, saying, “I don’t think any The president should not be above the law.”
Anchor Dana Bash said, “I want to start with what’s going on with Donald Trump today. He’s back in Florida for a federal lawsuit. Meanwhile, in another Jan. 6 lawsuit, The court announced this week that it will hear arguments in April on whether his immunity request will be granted. If the case goes ahead, it won’t happen until just before, during, or even after the election. That means it’s very likely. Should the Supreme Court expedite this?”
Haley said, “We want to consider immunity, and I think the Supreme Court should hear that. No president should be above the law. And, you know, we’ve never made this clear before. “There has never been a need, but I think it’s important for the Supreme Court to clarify,” the candidate responded. “Do you want to see things move faster? Of course they do. But do you think judges and lawyers will make it happen? I don’t know, I mean, it might take a while, but… I’m glad they heard that. I think that’s important.”
“Is it important for voters to know how this case and other cases will end before they go to vote?” Bash said.
Haley replied, “Of course, of course. I mean, they want people to know as much information as possible about the person they’re deciding is going to be president before they go to vote. That’s what we all want. I don’t know if I can make it that clear, but I think that’s what voters want.”
