Noem: 'Threatening' Newsom post 'worried my family and friends'

The Department of Homeland Security, led by Christa Noem, expressed concerns on Monday night about a recent post from California Governor Gavin Newsom. Noem stated that the post caused significant alarm for her family and friends.

“It was truly shocking and alarming. I started getting a flurry of messages from my family. My kids were asking, ‘Are you okay, Mom? What’s going on?’ They know the kinds of threats I’ve faced,” Noem said during her appearance on Fox News.

She detailed how her loved ones were distressed, understanding the context of her situation.

On Saturday, Newsom’s office posted on social media, saying, “Today will be a bad day. You’re welcome, America,” which drew criticism from officials in President Trump’s administration.

“This sounds like a threat. It’s unacceptable, @gavinnewsom,” an official remarked.

Another comment described the post as particularly inappropriate given its timing around Charlie’s Memorial Weekend, labeling Newsom’s actions as both reckless and harmful.

Newsom responded by sharing a meme from “SpongeBob SquarePants,” labeling the criticism accurately as a threat.

Noem noted that she had previously faced threats from cartels and criminals, heightening her concern regarding Newsom’s remarks. She recalled her immediate reaction: “What does he mean by this? What’s going on?” referring to the worries stemming from violent events, including the recent murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Noem emphasized the importance of engaging in meaningful dialogue rather than resorting to irresponsible statements, urging everyone to listen to one another.
