Illegal Voting Charges in New Hampshire

Several non-U.S. citizens are facing charges for allegedly voting illegally in New Hampshire, with accusations linked to the 2024 presidential and general elections.

Naseef Bryan, a resident of Manchester, New Hampshire, has been arrested and hit with three counts of illegal voting. He reportedly cast illegal ballots in the local elections in 2023 and in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

If found guilty, Bryan could face fines up to $4,000 and imprisonment ranging from three and a half to seven years.

The arrest took place in August at the 9th Circuit Court in Manchester.

Background on Bryan

According to NHPR, Bryan is a 34-year-old immigrant from Jamaica who has permanent residency in the U.S. The report also reveals that he has a history of filing numerous lawsuits against various government entities, including local police and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

Interestingly, Bryan has previously lodged two lawsuits against USCIS, but his complaints seem somewhat unclear, with references to maritime laws and unusual demands, like restitution in gold coins.

Legal Developments

In 2024, New Hampshire passed a law requiring individuals to provide proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote. While the bill was signed in September, it didn’t go into effect until shortly after the 2024 presidential election.

In the previous election, former Vice President Kamala Harris narrowly garnered four electoral votes from New Hampshire against President Donald Trump, winning by a slim margin of 50% to 48%. Since 2021, Republicans have gained control of both the governor’s office and the state legislature.

National Context

This arrest highlights growing concerns regarding illegal voting, particularly among non-citizens. For example, in Texas, Attorney General Ken Paxton has initiated a survey investigating over 100 potential non-citizens who allegedly participated in voting during the 2020 and 2022 elections.

Most of these flagged votes were reported in Harris County, with investigations spreading to other areas like Guadalupe and Cameron counties.

The findings stem from an executive order by President Trump, instructing the Department of Homeland Security to supply states with comprehensive databases from USCIS.

Recently, Democratic representative Yvette Clark from New York raised concerns about immigration statistics to support her district, indicating a need for reevaluation in the context of voting demographics.
